I'm Theodora — an astrologer, historian, pianist, writer, and relentless student of symbolic worlds. My work lives at the intersection of historical research, intuitive practice, and deep conversation. I hold a PhD in Musicology, and years spent in archives have shaped the way I approach astrology just as profoundly as years spent reading charts have shaped the way I read history.

I don't believe spirituality asks us to stop thinking. Quite the opposite: my practice is rooted in the conviction that intuition becomes stronger rather than weaker when it is informed by history, psychology, ethics, and any other system of knowledge. I care deeply about where spiritual ideas come from, how they have traveled across cultures, what they have been used to justify, and whose voices have been erased along the way. My perspective is explicitly queer-inclusive, intersectional, historically grounded, and anti-colonial. I have no interest in reproducing systems of authority that ask people to surrender either their judgment or their humanity.

At the heart of my work is an unusually immersive way of thinking. Whether I'm studying Romantic pianism, reading an astrological chart, or writing privately, I tend to inhabit symbolic worlds from the inside out. Writing is my deepest form of channeling; over the years, I have sustained endless dialogue with the page (or keyboard) that continues to reveal psychological, symbolic, and sometimes startlingly unexpected connections that only emerge through the act of writing itself. Over more than two decades, this practice of automatic writing has produced between half a million and one and a half million words of private writing annually, which now forms an ongoing archive of exploratory shadow work,  creativity, self-mythology, dreams, grief, love, and the symbolic patterns that shape a life. It is also the foundation of my developing book project, Writing in the Dark.

Astrology is my primary symbolic language. I work largely within the Hellenistic tradition while remaining open to contemporary developments, and I occasionally incorporate tarot or other symbolic tools — not primarily as predictive tools, but as companions for reflection, dialogue, and discernment. I see divination less as the promise of future certainty than as an invitation to notice patterns, ask better questions, and engage more honestly with one's own inner life.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about me is that I have no desire to be anyone's guru. I don't want clients to depend on me. Ideally, I would want them to leave a session more capable of trusting their own discernment than they did when they arrived. As such, the conversations I value most are collaborative: I ask questions, I offer historical context, provide symbolic frameworks, and suggest psychological observations, while noticing recurring motifs. Most of all, I hold space for complexity. If someone leaves thinking more deeply rather than merely feeling reassured, I generally consider that a successful reading.

Outside of astrology, I perform as a concert pianist specializing in nineteenth-century repertoire, research the history of the body, virtuosity, fashion, and material culture, and spend much of my life writing, reading, and wandering through forests, museums, libraries, and old buildings in search of beauty, mystery, and historical traces. I was born in Romania and now live in California, and moving between cultures has shaped the way I move between intellectual, artistic, and spiritual traditions as well.
